What is survey and who is surveyor?

This blog is focused to Marine and Cargo Surveyors which concerned to survey of Vessel, Ship, In Port, Shipping, Cargo, Sea, Marine Activity, Maritime, Containers, and relates services.

As my terms; Surveys is the activity that conducted to observed one object to obtain the relevant and authentic data and publish in the report.

And Surveyors is the person who perform the survey physically, to observe the survey object regards to the client/costumer requested to obtain the survey data and submitted to the costumer as report of survey.

Wikipedia published “A Marine Surveyor is a person who conducts inspections, surveys or examinations of marine vessels to assess, monitor and report on their condition and the products one them. Marine Surveyors also inspect equipment intended for new or existing vessels to ensure compliance with various standards or specifications. Marine surveys typically include the structure, machinery and equipment (navigational, safety, radio, etc.) and general condition of a vessel. It also includes judging materials on board and their condition.”

The Marine Cargo Surveyor is preferred for the persons with marine based and sea services experienced, but not limited for the every persons who want to learn and about it.

  9. Dear Raja,

It is the common practice for loading and unloading cargo. while loading the vessel should be discharge the ballast to receive the cargo. in the other hand, she will load the ballast when discharging the cargo.

The quantity of ballasting/deballasting is depends on cargo quantity and stability required by the vessel. you could check the loading/unloading plan that usually provided by vessel before working.

  15. Dear Land Surveyor,

Thanks for your interesting. During my survey experience, the major challenge is when you assigning the job in the extreme circumstances. It is required the skill, intuitive and initiative of the surveyor to complete the task. The work is under pressure as you will face more parties concerns with their own surveyor representatives that will be arise different interpret toward the survey object.

The marine and cargo surveyor offers very wide range and variety of surveys, and involves into the international trade. You will do assignment from local and foreign country principals. The survey that reported is subject to change, and it moving from one place to another, you may not find the object after doing survey. The time and place of inspection is meaningful.

The skill could transfer from the expert to apprentice surveyor by doing the assignment together, and there is course held by Institution to improve the surveyor skill.

As the marine and cargo surveyor concerns to the transport of cargo and suitability of the transporter (ship) itself, it is recommended for parties such as seller, buyer, ship’s owner, shipping lines, insurance, trader/broker to use the surveyor services to protect their interests from any undesired disputes.

    Regards,
    Surveyors
